CRISTINA PALACIOS
Cristina García Palacios, an enterprising jewelry designer who from a very young age ventured into art taking classes in painting, metal embossing, screen printing, among others. Her studies in Fashion Design led her to discover the importance of jewelry in fashion. From there, her passion for jewelry is born, and especially for working with silver, which is why she decides to settle for a while in Argentina to specialize in fine jewelry design.
In 2007 she installed her jewelry workshop in Oaxaca, her hometown, and that is how she formally entered the jewelry business.
In June 2008, with the collection “Mexican Essence” she exhibited her work for the first time. This same year she consolidates her own Cristina Palacios brand, placing her pieces in exclusive boutiques.
Cristina Palacios focuses her vision towards Oaxacan art, creating works of great expression and detail. She brings together the design of traditional Mexican crafts, the works of great Mexican painters, nature and geometric figures, to turn them into jewelry. Her goal is to make her creations become a symbol of elegance and work of art.
The embroidery with silver thread made by hand is the technique that characterizes her designs, in fact she is the only Mexican designer who handles it. This earned her being selected by the Jewelry Fashion Information Center of Industrias Peñoles (the world’s largest producers of fine silver), as her Trend 201, as well as being her image in various publications. Other techniques that she handles perfectly are: lost wax casting, wax modeling, openwork, welding and filigree, among others.
Cristina Palacios has participated and sold in various exhibitions for the Palacio de Hierro such as “Plata MX” where they selected 12 of the best jewelry designers at the national level, “Caballero de Plata” and “Mexico I like your style”.
In 2013, he exhibited at the Amparo Museum in Puebla, as well as at the Iturbide Palace in Mexico and at the San Agustín Arts Center in Oaxaca with the exhibition “Silver Artifices and Design 1880-2012”, organized by the Fomento Cultural Banamex where they selected the best of both jewelry and goldsmithing from the last 132 years of Mexico, thus being the only Oaxacan to participate, was also selected to participate in the exhibition “Mexico in Silver: 5 centuries of shared identity” at the Arocena Museum in the city of Torreón and last year he presented his exhibition “A MANO” at Casa Lamm Gallery in Mexico City, which was a jewelry co-edition with 4 of the most important plastic artists of Oaxaca, such as the master Francisco Toledo , Luis Zárate, José Villalobos and Rubén Leyva, the former currently considered the best plastic artist in Mexico, among other awards and exhibitions.
